The Houston Chronicle, a Hearst Corporation company, has an immediate opportunity for a Staff Accountant. Primary responsibilities will be to assist in the reviewing and processing of transactional data from multi-company financial systems into a centralized corporate financial reporting system, reconciliation of multiple company sub-ledger systems to the general ledger, preparation of journal entries, review of financial reports for accuracy and analysis, and compile financial data for ad hoc financial reports. Additionally, the individual will assist in various accounting functions and other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Finance with 3-4 years of progressive accounting experience, have extensive PC skills including proficient knowledge of Excel and Word. Newspaper industry, Infinium General Ledger, Hyperion software experience preferred, but not required.

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or Management with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the management of a large and diverse multi-state Payroll operation (5,000 plus employees).

The Rockford Register Star has an immediate opportunity for a Controller. In this position you will monitor all accounting functions, including budgeting, revenue estimates, and month end close, maintain general ledger accounts, and ensure high standards of internal control. You will also assure that all assets of the company are safeguarded and that all transactions are accurate, properly authorized and recorded. The Controller must keep financial information accurate and confidential to assure that records fairly reflect the financial activities and position of the newspaper. The Controller must take an active role in supporting the advertising and circulation departments with their top line revenue goals.
The selected candidate will be an integral part of the Register Star’s executive management team. We are looking for an accounting professional who can partner with senior leaders and provide company-wide leadership for both people and processes.
The preferred candidate will have an undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of three years Controller experience in the Newspaper industry. Strong preference will be given to those with a CPA designation and experience with Lawson/AS400. Public accounting experience and familiarity with Brio also preferred.
