The Newspaper Purchasing
Management Association was established in 1958 by a group of newspaper
purchasing executives, spearheaded by Thomas A. Corcoran, Purchasing
Director of The Courier Journal and Louisville Times. Today the NPMA
consists of approximately 100 regular members representing newspapers and
newspaper groups of all sizes from throughout the U.S. and Canada and is a
valuable resource for knowledge, best-practices and career growth.
The NPMA was organized for the following purposes:
-
To promote the study,
development and application of improved purchasing methods, practices
and techniques in the newspaper publishing industry.
-
To foster and promote
interchange of ideas and cooperation among its members.
-
To collect and
disseminate information of interest and benefit to its membership.
-
To encourage and
cooperate in the institution of ethical standards in buying and selling.
-
To strive by all
legitimate means to advance the purchasing profession within the
industry.
-
To be irrevocably
dedicated to, and to be operated exclusively for, non-profit purposes.
Since it's inception, the
organization has strived to be a proactive resource for it's members and
provide an opportunity for purchasing professionals to share knowledge,
leverage the collective skills and talents of the members and serve as a
conduit for professional development.
Our members come from
broad and diverse backgrounds and form strong bonds that benefit the members
professionally and personally. Our newsletter, web site, annual conference
and committee meetings help members stay in contact and exchange ideas.
The NPMA is committed
to the highest standards of the purchasing profession. The Association
discourages disclosure or discussion of confidential prices or other
confidential information. It is also the policy of the Association to
support the antitrust and ethical standards endorsed by the Institute for
Supply Management
